Excite Ballpark at San Jose Giants

San Jose, California

Delivered structural engineering and detailing for Excite Ballpark’s new player development facility.

GPLA partnered with the project's general contractor, DPR Construction, to serve as the Structural Engineer of Record (SEOR), providing engineering and detailing for a new player development facility at the historic Excite Ballpark in San Jose, California. The project included designing a structural steel-framed support building that housed batting cages and workout facilities to support player development.

Working within an active facility, GPLA coordinated engineering, detailing, fabrication and construction through a shared building information model that was shared with the project team, creating a seamless flow of information from design through installation. This integrated approach allowed the project team to identify and resolve issues early, maintain alignment between engineering intent and construction requirements, and provide fabrication-ready documentation that supported efficient execution in the field.

“Using the BIM model that GPLA developed in design, right into those fabrication level drawings, supported schedule efficiency by avoiding the typical back and forth of RFIs. Instead, our detailing team and the design and construction team engaged in a dynamic exchange of ideas and knowledge, addressing issues quickly, in real time, and within the model.”
